Time Limits for Claims
Q: How long do I have to bring a legal claim for an incident that occured in Colorado?
A: It varies. Here is a general statement of the limitation periods.

CAUTION: there are many exceptions (children, discovery, etc.)

Motor vehicle cases: 3 years

Product liability: 2 years

Medical/legal malpractice: 2 years

Assault: 1 year

Wrongful death: 2 years from date of death

Claims against a state or local government agency require that a specific Notice Claim be filed within 180 days of the date of injury (and also that a lawsuit be filed within the limitations period)

Claims against a federal government agency require that a specific Notice of Claim be filed within 2 years of injury.
